Ignite

In the cone 6 soda, I had some of my cast lampshades. Though some of them warped and were no longer round enough to fit the fixture, others had shrink too much. With these slip cast objects, the memory of clay was very prevalent. In other words, if the casting was nudged before the firing and then fixed, chances are, the piece remembered the bends. Wild. Anyways, one of the forms fit perfectly to the fixture. In making two different sized openings for the two separate molds, I felt I had a better chance of proper fitting. Next step was to talk to Shawn Murrey. He was able to help me find the right hardware for the fixture in order to properly light it and hang it from the ceiling. After wiring it together and finding this fit, I am hoping the others I have don’t warp so I can display a couple more in my show.

Being able to utilize the translucency of the material was important for this particular piece. Little glaze was used to finish it, and soda coats the interior and exterior. With a similar form that is currently in a kiln, I used glaze. I am curious how this will affect the translucency and how the works will compare and contrast to each other.
